Work for the week of 7th March to 13th March

Begin here

We heard some very deep, moving and interesting contributions about  qualities of experience investigating sense doors last Thursday.

We also heard about some Abhidhamma teachings relevant, indeed essential, to an understanding of the Prince and Princess of the Heart’s Quest.

These Abhidhamma teachings are presented in a short animated video linked below.

We also read a paper translated from Khmer which is one explanation of various things in the tale of the Prince and Princess of the Heart. You can download it below.

What To Do

1 - Watch the video below that explains the relevant Abhidamma concepts and gives details of the work for the week.

2 - If you wish, have a look at the paper translated from Khmer which is one explanation of various things in the tale of the Prince and Princess of the Heart - click to download the pdf.

3 - The Work for the Week

While walking, shopping, on the tram
eating, whatever and whenever:
investigate the 6 sense doors.
Overcome the Indriya birds.
What does that mean?

Bring a creative contribution about your experiences.

Your contribution can be a representation of your explorations and findings in experience - poem, picture, recollection, description, story, diagram etc etc.

Those who didn’t have chance to contribute last week will go first - but please do adjust, add to and develop your investigations in the light of our new understandings - especially the Abhidhamma.

Any questions about all this feel free to email Rob

Work week of 28th Feb to 6th March

Begin here

Deva-in-human-form tells the Prince and Prince of the Heart (i.e. us) what to do how to escape from Lord Time and King Death.

First Deva's guidance is summarised in the sheet you received at the end of our meeting - you can also download it by clicking on the image below.

1 - Read the advice and see what you think it might mean - don’t worry if it seems very odd and difficult to make sense of

2 - Know this:

The Indriya birds are guarding the 6 senses - which are:

The eye consciousness door opens into the world of Seeing
The ear consciousness door opens into the world of Hearing
The body consciousness door opens into the world of Touching & bodily sensation
The tongue consciousness door opens into the world of Tasting
The nose consciousness door opens into the world of Smelling
The mind consciousness door opens into the world of mind objects
(the mind is just another sense organ that perceives thoughts coming and going at the door of the mind)

3 - Watch this video animation about the processes happening at the sense doors according to Abhidhamma.
4 - Reflect on the Deva-in-human-form’s advice to us and the Prince and Princess in the light of the Cob-Web animation.

5 - What to do

Reflect on any or all of the following puzzles:

Explore your exprience at the sense doors - what’s going on?

What are the Indriya birds in the experience of your senses and why are they so savage? (indriya here means sense door)

What is the bow and arrow all about and how do you “Kill the Indriya Birds” with it?

Why is the bow and arrow so difficult to make?

Your contribution can be a representation of your explorations and findings in experience - poem, picture, recollection, description, story, diagram etc etc.

Any questions about all this feel free to email Rob
